However, the day didn’t begin as planned for the Magnus Carlsen-led Pipers as they suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Viswanathan Anand-led PBG Alaskan Knights on Monday.
Nino Batsiashvili continued her good form, taking down the experienced Koneru Humpy for her second straight win after beating Carissa Yip in the previous round, putting the Alaskans in the lead with three crucial points. After the Volodar Murzin vs Abhimanyu Mishra and Kateryna Lagno vs Divya Deshmukh games ended in draws, the Alaskans retained their lead in the match-up.
